Jeff
please help me understand the dynamics of it.
how do you go from being intimate to becoming buddies?
i have always been better at being a friend than being in a relationship.

i will post a serious list of the beliefs that make jw's unique.
but i want your thoughts, including anything weird like "beards are evil" or that "smurfs are from the devil.".
the top 10 jw beliefs:.
One that I would find comical if not so painful to so many:
Shunning family members and friends for leaving the religion, committing any sin deemed worthy, or just being inactive, is an act of LOVE, and does not constitute judgmentalism, or punishment.
Jeff
just got back from driving my daughter, her significant other, daughter's cat and s.o.
's dog back to grad school in boulder, co. .
some observations:.
I understand the 'tired' - the miles you covered are just about average for any of the 2 or 3 million OTR truck drivers in our nation for a typical 5 days. Been there - done that.
Imagine doing that same 2600 miles or maybe 4000 EVERY WEEK. Kinda hard to really enjoy the scenery when you are pushing to hit point B, eh?
Rest well. Glad you had a safe trip.
Jeff
..... i still take myself a wee bit too seriously sometimes..... i look back at all i have written since i came here... what a ride!.
i clearly like to argue.
i think i have stated this before, but generally speaking, i don't argue in person.
ATJ - Look. I have stuck my foot in my mouth so many times since I first blundered onto this little cyber-stage, that I can't count them.
I, just as you do, state what I think at the moment. I don't go back and retract. At least not very often. I have seen nothing in your postings here that indicates any need on your part to do so.
This is, afterall, a DISCUSSION FORUM. There wouldn't be much friggin' discussion if everyone saw things the same way, dander never got up, now would it? In the 'heat of discussion' we all say things that we might wish we could just withdraw. That is why there is a time allowance for deleting/editing your posts. If you see right away that you were out of line, or need to remove your foot from your mouth, just do it quickly and move on.
You seem to be a good guy. I doubt many take offense, and if they do, well, that is just where the chips fall, eh.

i thought the topic of religion would be a great one for facebook.. wow, was i wrong about that.. http://www.facebook.com/pages/god-is-not-divided/112694992130588.
the only people are show any interest at all are catholics.. witnesses seem to avoid every venue where somebody else might show up.. zionists do likewise; but they have a different reason.. but, god yhvh is god of the whole earth, is my point.. anybody got any idea what i can do to stimulate godly conversation on my page?.
i'm tryin' to minister to the merely-confused as witnesses do out in service.. .
It is a hopeless effort EP. As you can see I wasted my breath trying to reason with this [fill in the blank] for a couple days.
She is delusional, paranoid. She has been victimized by the Watchtower, but still wants to accept it as truth. She has Robert King syndrome. Plus it is like trying to talk to a coke head - she is so malfocused. Kinda like the hopeless occupant of room 436 of the Insititute, I fear.
I understand to some degree. She mentioned that she began her Watchtower journey in 1964/5. I too, began my indoctrination around 50 years ago. It is damned hard to shed the pain that comes with having committed ones entire life to something as wrong as that religion is. In some ways she wants to find it was actually true, but just corrupt perhaps. I understand it to some degree, from my own personal experience. I am saddened by it, really.
Peace will only come when she admits that the Watchtower was only right about one thing; Religion is a snare and a racket. All of it.
Jeff
and may you all have peace!
this is another general question for the board and i ask your indulgence because i am trying to understand how others think.
if there truly is no god/god... what is wrong with the existence of religion?
what do YOU do, Jeff?
I am appointed by GOD Zeus to find errant believers in Yahweh, and make sure they take their meds on time.
Of course Zeus and I have a 'special' relationship that goes far beyond my current terrestrial assignments - but I cannot reveal it at this time. Mr. Phelps, this forum will self-retranslate 8 seconds after you read this:

Are you UNAWARE of the use of fluoride in water, depleted uranium in armaments, faulty vaccines, nuclear-warmed power stations on top of quake fault lines;
pharmaceuticals and genetically altered grains ARE DESTROYING human and biological life?
Do you think these are ACCIDENTS OF NATURE?
Shouldn't somebody or ANYBODY BE ACCOUNTABLE for these assaults upon Life itself?
Or FaceBook Fascist who hack accounts so that the 'message' can't be delivered, salvation assured?
Jeff
apologies if this has already been discussed, but saw this on the fb jehovahs witnesses, new, library, history page and wondered if anyone knew anything about it or has any idea what it could be about.

They had on in Sept of 2001, just days after the 9-11 attacks. Ours was held at Pontiac Michigan.
WHAT A JOKE! They were practically frisking us at the door for recording devices and cameras. It was built up for weeks with special invitations to only certain congregations, elders, etc. We went, we sit, and THERE WAS PRECISELY ZERO 'NEW INFORMATION', which is what they said it would be.
We kept waiting. Four or five hours of Lett and the other GB member [black guy, can't recall his name], one talk after another. Finally in the last few minutes we thought they would now release the 'nu light' we were expecting. NOTHING! Song and Prayer, and then a long drive home wondering just what the hell happened./What was the Big Deal?
It was interesting though, that the police were on top of the dome with rifles and binoculars, since the entire nation was expecting further terrorist activity. But that was the most memorable part of the whole goddammed thing.
Jeff
(for the purposes of this post, i want to say that being angry, though a real emotion, is not healthy if it continues to fester inside you.
i think anger is reasonable if it helps you to move on from point a to point b. in addition, because of the real issues anger can bring, if you feel that after many years you are still angry over your jw experience, i strongly encourage therapy.
long term anger is destructive to the individual).
Thanx Gladiator.
